This banana bread recipe without brown sugar is moist, fluffy, and naturally sweetened with ripe bananas and a touch of honey (or maple syrup). It’s perfect for breakfast, a snack, or even dessert. Made with simple pantry staples, this easy recipe is a great way to use up overripe bananas without relying on brown sugar!

  • Total Time: 60–70 minutes
  • Yield: 1 loaf (10–12 slices) 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ripe bananas (mashed)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup honey or maple syrup
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (melted) or ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
  • ½ cup milk (or buttermilk for extra moisture)
  • ½ cup chopped nuts or chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, mash the bananas until smooth.
  • Add granulated sugar, honey (or maple syrup), melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix well until combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring gently.
  • Pour in the milk and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • If using, fold in chopped nuts or chocolate chips.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread evenly.
  • Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let the banana bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
