Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, these Banana Fries are a delicious and unique twist on traditional fries! Whether you enjoy them with a spicy dip, a sweet drizzle of honey, or a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar, they’re sure to become a favorite treat! Perfect for both sweet and savory cravings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 firm bananas (plantains or unripe bananas work best)
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch (or all-purpose flour)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for a spicy kick)
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or coconut oil)

For Sweet Version (Optional):

  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Honey or chocolate drizzle for serving

Instructions

  • Prepare the Bananas: Peel the bananas and cut them into thin strips, similar to French fries.
  • Seasoning: In a bowl, mix cornstarch (or flour), salt, black pepper, paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using).
  • Coating: Lightly toss the banana strips in the seasoned flour mixture to coat them evenly. Shake off any excess.
  • Heat Oil: In a deep pan or skillet, heat oil to 350°F (175°C) over medium heat.
  • Fry the Banana Fries: Carefully drop the coated banana strips into the hot oil, frying in small batches. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per batch.
  • Drain & Serve: Remove fries from the oil and drain on a paper towel to remove excess oil.
  • Sweet Version (Optional): If making a sweet version, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar while warm and drizzle with honey or melted chocolate.
  • Enjoy! Serve hot with your favorite dips such as garlic aioli, spicy ketchup, or chocolate sauce.
