Ingredients
Scale
- 3 firm bananas (plantains or unripe bananas work best)
- 1/2 cup cornstarch (or all-purpose flour)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional, for extra flavor)
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for a spicy kick)
- Oil for frying (vegetable or coconut oil)
For Sweet Version (Optional):
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- Honey or chocolate drizzle for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the Bananas: Peel the bananas and cut them into thin strips, similar to French fries.
- Seasoning: In a bowl, mix cornstarch (or flour), salt, black pepper, paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using).
- Coating: Lightly toss the banana strips in the seasoned flour mixture to coat them evenly. Shake off any excess.
- Heat Oil: In a deep pan or skillet, heat oil to 350°F (175°C) over medium heat.
- Fry the Banana Fries: Carefully drop the coated banana strips into the hot oil, frying in small batches. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per batch.
- Drain & Serve: Remove fries from the oil and drain on a paper towel to remove excess oil.
- Sweet Version (Optional): If making a sweet version, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar while warm and drizzle with honey or melted chocolate.
- Enjoy! Serve hot with your favorite dips such as garlic aioli, spicy ketchup, or chocolate sauce.
