Wafer Cookies: The Ultimate Guide to This Crunchy Delight

  • Author: Chef Clara
  • Total Time: 25–30 minutes

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions

Step 1: Mix the Dough

In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and a pinch of salt. Gradually add the melted butter, milk, egg, and vanilla extract. Stir until the mixture forms a smooth and slightly sticky dough.

Step 2: Roll Out the Dough

Lightly dust your work surface with flour. Roll out the dough into a very thin sheet—about 1/8 inch thick (thinner if possible). The thinner the dough, the crispier the wafer cookies will be.

Step 3: Cut the Dough

Use a sharp knife or a cookie cutter to cut the dough into even rectangles, squares, or any shape you prefer.

Step 4: Bake or Press

  • Using a Wafer Iron: Heat the iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Place a piece of dough in the iron and press it until the wafer is golden brown (about 2–3 minutes).
  • Using the Oven Method: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the cut dough pieces on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 8–10 minutes or until golden and crisp.

Step 5: Cool and Store

Let the cookies cool completely on a wire rack. They’ll crisp up as they cool. Store the wafer cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks.
